Rudbeckia fulgida var. sullivantii ‘Goldsturm’ is a robust, easy-care perennial prized for its striking golden-yellow flowers with distinctive dark brown centres, flowering from August through to the first frosts. This award-winning cultivar reaches 60–90cm tall and makes an excellent addition to summer borders and meadow-style gardens, creating bold drifts of colour late in the season when many other plants have faded. Plant in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil — it tolerates chalk, clay and loam. Once established, it is remarkably drought-tolerant and low-maintenance. Water during dry spells in the growing season and deadhead regularly to encourage continuous flowering. The flowers are highly attractive to bees and other pollinators, making this an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly gardens. Divide established clumps every three to five years in spring to maintain vigour. It requires no staking and does not spread aggressively, making it a trouble-free border plant.
