Description
Verbena bonariensis, with common names Purpletop vervain, Clustertop vervain, Argentinian vervain, or pretty verbena, is a member of the verbena family, a flowering annual or herbaceous perennial. It has upright square stems containing clusters of light purple flowers and is an excellent plant for adding height and movement to a mixed plant border. Its branches are virtually leafless, so verbena can be used anywhere in a border without overshadowing other plants. Dried flower heads look great on a frost morning in winter, so cut it back in early spring.
