The Chadwick Window Box (60cm) Cyclamen, Hebe, Euonymus, Hedera, Juncus, Brassica Planter sold by Boma Garden Centre

In winter you spend more time looking out of the window than standing in the garden, so it helps to have something good to look at. The Chadwick puts purple cyclamen and a frilly purple ornamental cabbage in a black metal window box. The dark finish makes the purples look richer, even on a flat grey morning.Around them, the planting is all about texture. Corkscrew rush twists up in loose green curls, hebe and green euonymus fill out the middle with neat, leafy shapes, and small ivy trails over the front to soften the line of the box. It looks considered without being fussy. Each one is made to order and planted by hand at Boma in Kentish Town. Set it on the kitchen sill, a balcony ledge or beside the front door, and the darker months start to feel looked after, whether your view is a terraced street or your own back garden.
