Hydrangea paniculata GROUNDBREAKER® is a genuine horticultural first — the world’s original groundcover panicled hydrangea, bred by Living Creations in the Netherlands. While all other H. paniculata cultivars grow upright, ‘Groundbreaker’ spreads outward, staying low at just 30 cm tall while covering up to 60 cm across.This plant broke entirely new ground when it launched. Its naturally horizontal growth habit makes it perfect for front-of-border planting, pathway edging, mass groundcover, and container display — roles previously impossible for panicle hydrangeas. No staking, minimal pruning, and no need for the hard cutbacks that upright forms require.From July through to November — a remarkable 100-day flowering period — ‘Groundbreaker’ produces petite conical panicles of white flowers that gradually transition to soft blush-pink. The long season ensures your display carries well into autumn.Exceptionally cold-hardy to H6, making it one of the hardiest hydrangeas available. Grow in moist, well-drained fertile soil in full sun or partial shade. A light spring prune to around 20 cm will keep the plant tidy and maximise flowering. All hydrangeas are harmful if eaten and are skin allergens — gloves recommended.
