Hydrangea macrophylla Black Diamonds Series is a striking bigleaf hydrangea grown for its dark, glossy foliage and richly coloured summer flowerheads. The RHS lists several Black Diamonds cultivars, including ‘Dark Angel’, ‘Red Angel’, ‘Shining Angel’ and ‘Baroque Angel’, with flowers varying from red and purple-pink to blue depending on the cultivar and, in some cases, soil conditions. The dark leaves give the plant a distinctive, contemporary look, creating strong contrast beside lighter foliage, silver-leaved plants, ferns, hostas and shade-loving perennials.
