Dicentra spectabilis 'Valentine' (Pot Size 3L) Red Bleeding Heart sold by Boma Garden Centre

Dicentra (Lamprocapnos) spectabilis ‘Valentine’ is a striking and more dramatic form of the classic Bleeding Heart, producing rich crimson-red, heart-shaped flowers with contrasting white inner drops. These distinctive blooms hang in perfect rows along gracefully arching, dark stems, creating a strong visual line that draws the eye through shaded planting schemes.Flowering from mid to late spring, the blooms rise above finely divided, soft green foliage, offering a delicate, fern-like texture beneath the bold floral display. The deeper red colouring gives ‘Valentine’ a more contemporary and intense presence compared to traditional pink forms, making it particularly effective when paired with softer greens or silver-toned foliage.Ideal for shaded borders, woodland planting, and north-facing gardens, it combines beautifully with ferns, hostas, Brunnera, and hellebores. Like other Bleeding Hearts, it may naturally die back in summer, so it is best planted among later-emerging perennials to maintain continuity in the border.
