Coriandrum sativum is a fast-growing annual culinary herb grown for its aromatic feathery foliage and seeds. The tangy leaves (cilantro) are harvested within 4-6 weeks of sowing and used fresh in cuisines worldwide; the small white or purplish flowers develop into aromatic seeds (coriander) valued for cooking and pickling.Sow seeds directly outdoors in well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade, spacing them 2 inches apart in shallow drills. Germination occurs in 1-3 weeks. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Avoid planting in very hot locations, as coriander bolts rapidly above 30°C.For continuous leaf harvests, sow small batches every few weeks from spring through autumn. Start picking outer leaves when plants reach 4-6 inches tall using a cut-and-come-again method. Remove flower stems if growing purely for foliage. Protect seedlings from slugs and snails.
