Clematis ‘Edda’ is a compact, deciduous climbing plant with stunning large purple flowers bearing red-purple central stripes and delicate white and purple stamens. Flowering continuously from late spring through early autumn, it reaches just 1.2m in height with a 90cm spread, making it particularly suited to containers, patios, balconies, and even hanging baskets.Plant in a sunny or partially shaded position in moist, well-drained soil adaptable to chalk, clay, and sandy conditions. Position the crown 5–8cm deep at planting to encourage basal shoots. Protect the roots with shade or mulch to keep them cool. Pruning Group 2 clematis flowers on previous season’s stems; prune lightly in late winter to remove dead wood. For easier maintenance, it can also be hard-pruned as a Group 3 variety. All plant parts are skin irritants and potentially toxic if ingested; handle carefully and keep away from children and pets.
