The Capsicum annuum ‘Salsa’ is a compact, highly ornamental pepper plant grown for its vibrant, long-lasting colourful peppers rather than culinary use. The plant displays upward-facing cone-shaped fruits that emerge in shades of green, maturing to yellow, red, orange or mixed colours depending on the variety. At approximately 10cm in height, it is ideal for brightening windowsills, shelves, balconies and patios throughout summer and autumn. For best results, place in a bright spot with at least 4 hours of direct sunlight daily. Water moderately, keeping the soil moist but not waterlogged-allow the top inch to dry between watering. Feed with a balanced fertilizer fortnightly during the growing season to encourage abundant flowering and fruiting. These compact plants are tender and thrive in warm conditions; they are typically grown as seasonal decoratives and may not survive outdoors over winter in cooler climates. While technically edible, the peppers are grown for ornamental appeal rather than consumption.
