Stand the trough in the brightest spot you have, raised on pot feet so it drains freely and doesn’t sit wet. Water carefully through autumn and winter: check the compost regularly, as it can dry quickly in mild spells, and water only when the top feels dry. Water the cyclamen at the base, not over the crown. Remove faded flowers and any yellowing cyclamen leaves at the base to keep new buds coming. Trim the ivy if it grows too long. Don’t feed over winter. The cyclamen is the least hardy plant, so in a hard frost move the trough to a sheltered spot, cover it with fleece, or wrap a terracotta trough in bubble wrap. In spring, resume feeding and take out any plants that have finished.
