Acer palmatum 'Atropurpureum' (Pot Size 65L) Japanese Maple sold by Boma Garden Centre

Acer palmatum ‘Atropurpureum’ is an elegant small tree with deeply lobed, bronze-crimson foliage that transforms to brilliant scarlet in autumn before falling. The leaves are divided into approximately 7 lobes, creating an attractive palmate structure that develops deepest purple colouration in positions with good light. This slow-growing cultivar typically reaches 4-8 metres in height and spread, making it an excellent focal point for gardens. Plant in moist but well-drained soil in a sheltered position, preferably with partial shade to protect foliage from scorch. The tree tolerates a range of soils including chalk, clay, loam and sand, though slightly acidic conditions are preferred.Pruning follows pruning group 1, carried out only from late autumn through midwinter. The tree is hardy to H6 rating and will survive UK winters well, though protection from harsh winds is beneficial.
