The Kenwood Planter (25cm) Ready-Planted Glazed Terracotta Planter sold by Boma Garden Centre

Winter is when a window box earns its place. The Kenwood Planter is put together for the months when the garden goes quiet and you mostly see it from indoors, through the kitchen window or on your way out the front door. It’s an aged-finish window box, planted by hand at Boma in Kentish Town with six plants chosen to work together. A hellebore and a primrose bring flowers to the darker days. A hard fern, a skimmia and a variegated euonymus keep things green and full, with a good mix of glossy, leathery and patterned leaves. Dwarf fountain grass adds soft, low tufts that shift in the breeze.Set it on a sill, along the edge of a balcony or at the foot of the front steps, where it’ll greet you on grey mornings. Most of the planting is happy in partial shade, which suits plenty of London fronts and courtyards that rarely see full sun. It arrives finished, so all you need to do is choose the spot.
