Isolatocereus dumortieri (Pot Size 20cm) Candelabra cactus sold by Boma Garden Centre

Isolatocereus dumortieri, the Candelabra cactus, is a striking columnar succulent native to Mexico. It develops a distinctive woody trunk with upright branches, soft yellow spines and deep blue-green skin. In maturity, it becomes a substantial architectural specimen, though young plants remain compact and sculptural. In summer, short pale green or white flowers open at night, providing an unexpected display. These are followed by small reddish-orange fruits. The plant grows slowly, making it an ideal long-term investment for a sunny conservatory or sheltered patio in mild UK regions.Isolatocereus dumortieri thrives in bright sunlight and requires a freely draining mineral compost or cactus mix. Water moderately in spring and summer once the soil is dry; suspend watering in winter. It prefers temperatures above 12°C but can tolerate brief exposure to -4°C if well-established. Good air circulation is essential. Minimal feeding is needed; use dilute cactus fertiliser once a year if required.
