Few plants punch as hard or as long as Erysimum linifolium ‘Erysistible Magenta’. From late winter right through to the end of summer, this compact evergreen perennial produces densely packed spires of sweetly scented flowers that shimmer between deep magenta, burnt orange and soft purple — a kaleidoscope of warm tones that evolves as the season progresses.More tightly formed than many wallflower varieties, ‘Erysistible Magenta’ won’t sprawl or become leggy, making it an excellent choice for the front of a sunny border, a gravel garden, or a container on a south-facing patio. Its evergreen grey-green foliage provides year-round structure even when not in flower.Plant it alongside silver-leaved Stachys byzantina or the soft blue spikes of Nepeta ‘Six Hills Giant’ to set off the warm magenta tones beautifully. It also pairs well with alliums, Salvia ‘Caradonna’, and the cool white of Cerastium tomentosum. In containers, combine it with trailing Lobelia or Bacopa for a long-lasting seasonal display.
