Camellia ‘Black Lace’ is a striking evergreen shrub prized for its richly coloured, formal double blooms of deep red — so dark they verge on black under certain light — contrasted by glossy, dark-green leaves.  These large flowers typically appear in late winter through spring, often February to April. This cultivar’s compact upright habit makes it ideal as a focal specimen, in woodland or shaded borders, or even planted as a sheltered informal hedge.  Pair it with acid-loving companions such as rhododendrons, azaleas, camellia sasanqua varieties, ferns, or hydrangeas for rich layered textures and contrasting foliage. Its dark blooms work especially well set against lighter foliage or pale spring bulbs.
